Reye`s syndrome, a rare but serious condition characterized by acute encephalopathy and fatty liver disease, can occur when children or adolescents are given aspirin for fever or another illness or infection. From 1981 to 1997, 1207 cases of Reye`s syndrome in individuals under 18 years of age were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Of these, 93% reported being sick in the three weeks prior to the onset of Reye`s syndrome, most commonly with a respiratory infection, chickenpox or diarrhea. The reason for this widespread use is to demonstrate its proven efficacy in severe systemic venous thrombotic disease, and it has been thought that this may be beneficial in different types of retinal vein occlusions. Jo was loaded with aspirin to relieve the toothache she was worried about. Like flour mills, factories that manufacture aspirin tablets must control the amount of powder that enters the air inside the building, as the powder-air mixture can be explosive. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has set a recommended exposure limit of 5 mg/m3 (time-weighted average) in the United States. [17] In 1989, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) established a legal exposure limit for aspirin of 5 mg/m3, but this limit was repealed by AFL-CIO v. OSHA Decision of 1993. [18] Aspirin and other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen may delay skin wound healing.
[193] Previous results from two small, low-quality studies suggested a benefit with aspirin (in addition to compression therapy) on the healing time of venous leg ulcers and leg ulcer size,[194][195][196] However, larger, more recent, and better quality studies could not confirm these results. [197] [198] Therefore, further research is needed to clarify the role of aspirin in this context.
