We serve seniors in our offices, at home and in their communities, in the languages they speak, and with sensitivity, dignity and compassion. We are unique: The SeniorLAW Center is the only non-profit legal organization in Pennsylvania dedicated to protecting the legal rights of older adults. For more than 20 years, Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA) has provided free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals and families in Philadelphia. We address the diverse needs of Philadelphia`s at-risk veterans aged 60 and older, their widows/widowers and other elderly family members who are victims of crime and elder abuse, with a range of targeted and collaborative victim services and resources that meet their continuum of needs, including safety, health, housing and economic security. In partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, as well as the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alleghheny and Dauphin County Bar Associations, the National Aging Network and Frameworks, Legal Services, Pro Bono Partners, Law School, Law Enforcement, Courts, and many other partners, The SeniorLAW Center is leading a 3-year Phase II pilot project to analyze and strengthen Pennsylvania`s legal services for seniors. with a focus on justice for older adults and elder abuse. The Pennsylvania SeniorLAW Helpline is a free, confidential attorney hotline that provides legal information, advice, and referrals to seniors (60 and older) throughout the state. The helpline can address a variety of legal issues, including: Addressing various forms of elder abuse and financial abuse of older adults through direct services, training, community building, professional awareness, and advocacy. About 30 percent of Philadelphia`s residents live in families with incomes below the poverty line. For people with low incomes, the elderly or people with disabilities, our legal assistance is often crucial to protect their homes, children, safety and livelihoods. The PLA`s mission is to help those who cannot afford a lawyer navigate the legal system and understand and protect their rights. This service is available to all individuals 60 years of age and older who reside in one of Pennsylvania`s 67 counties, regardless of income.
