VCC`s five-month Legal Administrative Assistant program is open to candidates with work experience or training as an Office Management Assistant. This intensive program will provide you with the legal knowledge you need to enter a law firm and work as an assistant to a lawyer. Our courses cover the broadest areas of law, including civil litigation, family law, corporate proceedings, wills and estates, and property transfer. We use the most modern computer equipment and specialized legal software. Our graduates work at companies across the city, including Faskens, Miller Thomson and McCarthy Tetrault, as well as the Ministry of Justice and several court registries in British Columbia. The session includes an overview of the program, a Q&A session, and information on how to get a free keyboard evaluation. Be indispensable. Learn the specialized skills and procedures required to handle documents and conduct correspondence at a law firm. Develop your skills with legal theory, terminology and research to work in specialist areas such as litigation, family and inheritance law, corporate law and real estate. At least one year of experience as an administrative assistant at MS Word, as evidenced by the candidate`s CV (with confirmation from an employer, if desired), and the following: Acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to work with legal documents relating to corporate law, transfer of ownership, litigation, family law, wills and estates. These courses can be taken individually. Some can be applied to the Office Administration: Office Legal Skills program.
Successful completion of Vancouver Community College`s Administrative Assistant Program or equivalent program in English; OR Please note that even if the program lasts 5 months, a valid study permit is required as there is a mandatory internship in the program that requires both a study permit and a co-op work permit. Prior assessment and recognition of learning outcomes are not available for this program. Classes usually take place from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except during the internship where students work from Monday to Friday for the hours assigned by the internship host.
