To complete your studies, you will have the opportunity to tailor your studies to obtain a law degree, either as a university degree in law to complete the foundations of legal knowledge required to become a barrister in England and Wales or solicitor or barrister in Northern Ireland, or to take Part 1 of the National Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) in England and Wales. (The sum of the diploma points must be 3.0 and above) However, legal qualifications are highly valued by a much wider range of employers and provide a solid foundation to help you start, change or advance your career. The skills and qualities you will develop, such as business awareness, communication, initiative and collaboration, are highly transferable and can lead to a much wider world of opportunity within the legal profession and many other sectors. If you apply for a loan that is not a full degree, this will affect the time frame, as you must complete all of your law school within six years, including your credit transfer degree. If exceptional circumstances prevent you from completing your studies within these timeframes, you can request an extension, which is usually another year. If you do not intend to become a lawyer, the six-year period does not apply. The knowledge and skills you acquire by studying this degree will be recognised and highly regarded by employers outside the legal profession.
