Therefore, participating in the Legal Clinic module was child`s play for me to gain relevant experience. Following the research, a joint advisory letter is written. This will be verified by the supervising tutor who will provide you with feedback and help you develop your writing skills. I noticed an improvement in my drawing skills during the module. The tutors are very approachable and the support they provide is exceptional and helps tremendously to your confidence. In addition to legal advice, we are pleased to provide training to our colleagues to advise them on new or existing legislation or to equip staff to better identify and resolve legal issues. Located at 10 Queen Place, our legal clinic is a place where the public can get free legal advice in areas such as family, employment, debt matters, personal injury and civil litigation. At the same time, students can develop their skills in a real-world legal environment by advising under the supervision of a practicing lawyer. The Legal Clinic module is an experience that I highly recommend and ideal for anyone who wants to pursue a career in the legal sector or develop skills ready for professional roles. This is a win-win situation and is in high demand by a wide range of clients who need advice and our students who want to help. A suite of three interview rooms and function rooms equipped with high-quality technology allows students to conduct supervised confidential interviews that clients book in advance. Students use the considerable resources of the clinic and university to research their client`s legal problem and prepare a final letter of advice authorized by their practicing lawyer.

Leeds Beckett students have the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience through the partnership, so they can provide legal support to those going through the civil and family justice system. The clinic is a new initiative launched in March 2016 to provide legal advice to members of the public who would not otherwise be eligible for legal aid or for any reason would not have access to legal advice. The clinic is operated by the Park Row University of Law Centre in Leeds and operates an appointment service, so the clinic is not suitable for anyone wishing to attend without an appointment. As an LLB law student who aspires to a career in the legal field as a lawyer, it was important for me to gain practical experience during my studies.
The legal clinic offered the perfect opportunity, so I chose it as an elective module over a semester in the third year of law school. This was important to me because I believe that access to free legal advice is crucial for those who need it. Interviewing clients was something that made me nervous before going to the legal clinic, but as the module progressed, my confidence grew. This allowed you to focus on skills such as notes and time management – the conversation with the client is limited to 30 minutes, during which you have to gather all the relevant information and get instructions from the client on what they want to advise. If additional expertise or resources are required, the in-house team is supported by a panel of external legal counsel: at the end of each case, students prepare a formal legal advice letter under the supervision of their mentor, which is then sent to each client. This session is used to interview clients, record interview notes, and begin research. The diversity of clients led me to do research in different areas of law, which helped me strengthen my core legal knowledge and broaden my knowledge in areas I had never encountered before. I loved the opportunity to see the law in practice, which is refreshing after learning the theory. The Law Society is a course-based society for anyone studying or interested in law. We work closely with the Faculty of Law and the wider legal community to develop the knowledge, skills and experience of our members. During each practical session, you will be matched with a peer and assigned to a new client case. I really enjoyed this because it meant we could work with different people, which helps to develop very transferable teamwork skills. Working as a team helped clarify issues and support each other.

Right now, we are not dealing with immigration issues. The event includes volunteer law students interviewing clients under the supervision of qualified local lawyers.
